Arbutus trees at Roesland, North Pender Island

The Gulf Islands National Park area at Roesland on North Pender Island has some amazing arbutus trees (madrona trees for our friends down south) that are well worth visiting if you are in the area. The bulk of them are located on the island which unfortunately is no longer connected by a bridge. You can however walk over at low tide or if needed be prepared to get your feet wet.

These trees come in all types of gnarled forms and the peeling bark is very photogenic and has featured in many paintings of the islands.
