D‘Arcy Island’s has an interesting history as a leper colony for Chinese immigrants in the late 1800s and early 1900s. First Nations have a long association with this island as well, using it for religious practices. Presently it’s one of the best islands for kayakers wanting to get away from it all. Parks Canada asks that anyone visiting the island respect the cultural features.
