East Point - Saturna Island

Orcas off East Point, Saturna Island
Orcas off East Point, Saturna Island

East Point became part of the Gulf Islands National Park in 2006. The lightstation was built between 1881 and 1887 and still warns navigators of the treacherous waters of Boiling Reef offshore. East Point is a prime area for wildlife viewing as the nutrient rich waters sweep around the point. This is perhaps one of the best areas to view orcas so pack up a picnic and spend a pleasant day waiting for them to appear, no guarantees of course! Sea lion, seals, porpoises and numerous species of birds are often seen.

The sculpted sandstone cliffs at the point are gorgeous and worth exploring as well.
