Ochre star at Boat Passage in Winter Cove

Pisaster ochraceus, generally known as the purple sea star, is a common starfish found among the waters of the Pacific Ocean. These starfish are plentiful in the Winter Cove area of the Gulf Islands National Park. The best viewing area is at Boat Passage but be sure to go out on the rocks at low tide when they are most visible. While most of the ochre stars are purple you do see the occasional orange variety.
